It started out as any regular day, waking up late and lazing around watching re-runs until mom kicks me out of the house. I decided I would drive into town and get gas for my car. Only about a ten minute drive. My cousin was visiting from California and had to go home on Saturday, so I had volunteered to drive her to the airport in Brainerd, about an hour away. So i thought i'd fill up today so that i didn't run out of gas on my trip Saturday. After going to town, I was planning on going over to my uncle's to go tubing with my other cousins.
In order to get from our house to the highway (and then onto my uncle's or town), you have to drive about five miles down a dirt road with lots of twists and turns and interesting nature to look at. I'd driven the road plenty of times on my own, why should today be any different?
There's one turn, past the Miracle Bible Camp, where there are a few seconds you can't see what coming. Nobody ever worries, nothing ever happens, until today.
There was a deer. A cute little deer. Standing in the road right where I couldn't see it. When I did, it was too late. I swerved, hoping I could miss it, but i was going too fast. I started spinning. So i tried to swerve the other way, to correct myself and keep in control of the car. It didn't work. I lost all control, and the car started spinning. I remember sitting there, clutching the wheel, thinking 'Oh God! I'm going to die!' so i shut my eyes and waited for it to end. Eventually, it did. When the car spun full force into a tree, crushing the car, and me.
I remember changing radio stations before I hit the curve, only seconds before it happened. The clock said it was 9:47. When I opened my eyes, one whole side of the car was crushed, and it was 10:01. I panicked. I realized that I had just been in a car accident, and had gotten knocked unconscious. I panicked more when I couldn't get out of the car. I was in the middle of nowhere, with no cell phone to call for help, and i was trapped in a wrecked car. So I did the first thing I could think of. I screamed.
A few minutes later two women jogging heard me screaming. Together they managed to get the car open so I could get out. I cried, in front of two women I had never seen before. But i didn't care. I was alive, and I was safe.
I don't remember much after that. The car was towed, and my parents took me to the doctor. (The women happened to have walkie-talkies and radioed my parents, who always have one on, for help.) My shoulder is dislocated, I have minor whiplash, i'm covered in cuts and bruises, and i'm technically still in shock till the adrenaline gets out of my system. But i'm alive and that's all that matters. The car will hopefully be fixed in a few weeks.
I had to write this. I hope the i can get over this by writing this. Cause, to be honest, i'm still terrified. I've never been so close to death before and it scares me. Alot. Even now as I write this my hands are still shaking. Well I guess i've taken enough of your time. Better go. And to any of you who read this and actually care about me, sorry to worry you. I'll be ok . . . eventually.

Swim out to where you were floating
